Book Launch for The Many Names of Magdalena Cruz (September 30, 2017)
Colleen's book launch was so much fun! If you didn't make it out, allow me to recap what you missed. It was a beautiful evening in the shade of downtown Tulsa's high-rises, surrounded by new and familiar faces. We enjoyed pulled pork sandwiches with fried plantains from Elote Cafe, washed down with Cuba Libres. Once we were too stuffed to move, we got into the Cuban coffee and mojito gelato from Mod's Coffee & Crepes. So yummy! Throughout the evening, the amazing Mezclave Quartet kept us entertained with authentic Cuban music just outside of Decopolis. Our Master of Ceremonies, Jeff Thompson, did a great job keeping the festivities on track. Colleen signed a ton of books and performed a couple of tantalizing readings from the book. We finished off the night by raffling off some fantastic door prizes, including a deep sea fishing trip in Cuban waters.
Colleen is generously donating a percentage of her book sales to The Demand Project in Jenks, Oklahoma. This organization is devoted to helping victims of sexual abuse and human trafficking, with emphasis on protecting children. Just another reason to love this author.
Thank you to all who came out to celebrate with us! A special thank you to Decopolis, Elote and Mod's Coffee & Crepes. These businesses bent over backwards to help make this event happen. The next time you're near 5th and Boston in downtown Tulsa, please stop by one or all of these fine establishments. They are definitely worth checking out. Fair warning: if you're a book fanatic, you may find it very difficult to leave Decopolis. Seriously, it's one of the coolest bookstores ever.
